Die Antarktis ist der südlichste Kontinent der Erde und fast vollständig von Eis bedeckt. Sie gilt als kälteste, trockenste und windigste Region der Welt. Trotz extremer Bedingungen lebt hier eine faszinierende Tierwelt, darunter Pinguine, Robben und Wale.

Der Kontinent spielt eine zentrale Rolle für das Weltklima, da sein Eisschild etwa 70 % des globalen Süßwassers speichert. Es gibt keine dauerhaften Bewohner – nur Wissenschaftler leben zeitweise auf über 60 internationalen Forschungsstationen.

Dank des Antarktis-Vertrags ist der Kontinent ausschließlich friedlicher Forschung und dem Naturschutz gewidmet. Tourismus ist möglich, aber streng reglementiert.

Antarctica is the southernmost continent on Earth and is almost entirely covered by ice. It is considered the coldest, driest, and windiest region in the world. Despite extreme conditions, a fascinating array of wildlife thrives here, including penguins, seals, and whales.

The continent plays a central role in the global climate, as its ice sheet stores about 70 % of the world's freshwater. There are no permanent residents—only scientists live temporarily at over 60 international research stations.

Thanks to the Antarctic Treaty, the continent is dedicated solely to peaceful research and environmental protection. Tourism is possible but strictly regulated.
