Der Gibbs Fjord liegt an der Ostküste von Baffin Island im kanadischen Territorium Nunavut und öffnet sich zur Baffin Bay.

Er ist Teil eines weit verzweigten Systems tiefer Fjorde, die von steilen Felswänden, Gletschern und ganzjährig wechselnden Eisverhältnissen geprägt sind.

Die Region liegt nördlich des Polarkreises, wo das Meer nur wenige Monate im Jahr eisfrei ist. Während des kurzen Sommers fließt Schmelzwasser aus den umliegenden Gletschern in den Fjord und transportiert Sedimente, die das Wasser trüben und neue Ablagerungen bilden.

In den langen Wintern bestimmen Meereis, Frost und Stürme das Bild.

Durch seine Abgeschiedenheit und die beeindruckende Geologie gilt der Gibbs Fjord als ein nahezu unberührtes Beispiel für die Dynamik arktischer Landschaften und den Einfluss des Klimas auf Eis und Gestein.

Gibbs Fjord is located on the east coast of Baffin Island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut and opens into Baffin Bay.

It is part of an extensive system of deep fjords, characterized by steep cliffs, glaciers, and year-round changing ice conditions.

The region lies north of the Arctic Circle, where the sea is ice-free for only a few months each year. During the short summer, meltwater from surrounding glaciers flows into the fjord, carrying sediments that cloud the water and create new deposits.

During the long winters, sea ice, frost, and storms dominate the landscape.

Due to its remoteness and striking geology, Gibbs Fjord is considered an almost untouched example of the dynamics of Arctic landscapes and the influence of climate on ice and rock.
