Koblenz – Stadt am Deutschen Eck

Koblenz, das 1992 sein 2000-jähriges Bestehen feierte, gehört zu den ältesten Städten Deutschlands. Der ursprüngliche lateinische Name Confluentes („die Zusammenfließenden“) verweist auf die Lage der Stadt an der Mündung der Mosel in den Rhein am sogenannten Deutschen Eck.

Im Jahr 1962 überschritt Koblenz die Marke von 100.000 Einwohnern und wurde damit zur Großstadt.

Teile von Koblenz gehören zum UNESCO-Welterbe: Seit 2002 bildet die Stadt mit ihren Kulturdenkmälern das nördliche Tor zur Kulturlandschaft Oberes Mittelrheintal.

Koblenz – City at the German Corner

Koblenz, which celebrated its 2,000th anniversary in 1992, is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Its original Latin name, Confluentes (“the confluence”), refers to its location at the meeting point of the Moselle and the Rhine rivers at the so-called German Corner.

In 1962, Koblenz surpassed 100,000 inhabitants and officially became a major city.

Parts of Koblenz are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Since 2002, the city with its cultural monuments forms the northern gateway to the cultural landscape of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
