Fano – Römisches Erbe an der Adria

Die italienische Küstenstadt Fano bestand bereits zur römischen Zeit und trug damals den Namen Fanum Fortunae.

Mit rund 60.000 Einwohnern ist Fano die drittgrößte Stadt der Region Marken. Sie liegt an der Adriamündung des Flusses Metauro, etwa 12 Kilometer südöstlich von Pesaro, in der Provinz Pesaro und Urbino.

Die Via Flaminia erreichte in Fano die Adriaküste und führte von dort weiter nordwärts nach Pesaro und Rimini.

Trotz ihrer langen Geschichte ist Fano kein reiner Touristenort – auch wenn die Stadt für ihre ausgedehnten Strände bekannt ist.

Fano – Roman Heritage on the Adriatic

The Italian coastal town of Fano already existed in Roman times, when it was known as Fanum Fortunae.

With around 60,000 inhabitants, Fano is the third-largest town in the Marche region. It is located at the Adriatic mouth of the Metauro River, about 12 kilometers southeast of Pesaro, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino.

The ancient Via Flaminia reached the Adriatic coast in Fano and continued northward to Pesaro and Rimini.

Despite its long history, Fano is not merely a tourist destination, even though it is known for its extensive beaches.
