Florenz – Wiege der Renaissance

Florenz ist berühmt für seine Geschichte. Als Zentrum des spätmittelalterlichen europäischen Handels- und Finanzwesens war die Stadt im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert eine der reichsten Metropolen Europas. Sie gilt als die Wiege der Renaissance und wurde aufgrund ihrer kulturellen Bedeutung im 19. Jahrhundert auch als das „italienische Athen“ bezeichnet.

Durch die mächtige Dynastie der Familie Medici stieg Florenz zu einer der bedeutendsten Städte Europas auf. Zahlreiche Künstler und Gelehrte wirkten hier: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo und Galileo Galilei sind eng mit der Stadt verbunden.

Von 1865 bis 1870 war Florenz zudem Hauptstadt des neu gegründeten Königreichs Italien.

Florence – Cradle of the Renaissance

Florence is renowned for its history. As a center of late medieval European trade and finance, it was one of the wealthiest cities in the 15th and 16th centuries. Florence is considered the cradle of the Renaissance and, due to its cultural importance, was referred to in the 19th century as the “Italian Athens.”

Under the powerful Medici dynasty, Florence became one of Europe’s most flourishing cities. Many artists and scholars are closely linked to the city, including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Galileo Galilei.

From 1865 to 1870, Florence served as the capital of the newly founded Kingdom of Italy.
