Rom – Ewige Stadt am Tiber

Rom (lateinisch Rōma, italienisch Roma, amtlich Roma Capitale) ist die Hauptstadt Italiens und der Region Latium. Sie war historische Hauptstadt des Römischen Reiches sowie später des Kirchenstaates.

Die Stadt liegt in der Mitte der italienischen Halbinsel am Fluss Tiber. Mit rund drei Millionen Einwohnern im Stadtgebiet und etwa vier Millionen in der Agglomeration ist Rom die größte Stadt Italiens und eine der größten Metropolen der Europäischen Union.

Mit einer Fläche von 1.287 km² ist Rom zudem die ausgedehnteste Stadt Italiens. Antike Monumente, barocke Plätze, Kirchen, Brunnen und lebendige Stadtviertel prägen das Bild der „Ewigen Stadt“.

Rome – The Eternal City on the Tiber

Rome (Latin Rōma, Italian Roma, officially Roma Capitale) is the capital of Italy and of the region of Lazio. It was the historic capital of the Roman Empire and later of the Papal States.

The city is located in central Italy on the Tiber River. With around three million inhabitants in the city proper and about four million in the metropolitan area, Rome is the largest city in Italy and one of the largest in the European Union.

Covering 1,287 km², Rome is also the most extensive municipality in Italy. Ancient monuments, baroque squares, churches, fountains and vibrant neighborhoods define the character of the “Eternal City.”
