Kroatien – Zwischen Adria und Pannonischer Tiefebene

Kroatien, amtlich Republik Kroatien, liegt in der Übergangszone zwischen Mittel- und Südosteuropa. Das Land ist Mitglied der Europäischen Union, der NATO, der WTO, der OSZE und der Vereinten Nationen. Hauptstadt und größte Stadt ist Zagreb; weitere bedeutende Städte sind Split, Rijeka und Osijek.

Das Staatsgebiet erstreckt sich östlich des Adriatischen Meeres und teilweise in den Südwesten der Pannonischen Tiefebene. Kroatien grenzt an Slowenien, Ungarn, Serbien, Bosnien und Herzegowina sowie Montenegro.

Der südlichste Landesteil um Dubrovnik ist durch einen schmalen Küstenstreifen von Bosnien und Herzegowina vom übrigen Staatsgebiet getrennt und bildet damit eine geografische Besonderheit.

Croatia – Between the Adriatic and the Pannonian Plain

Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia, lies in the transition zone between Central and Southeastern Europe. The country is a member of the European Union, NATO, the WTO, the OSCE and the United Nations. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb; other major cities include Split, Rijeka and Osijek.

The territory stretches east of the Adriatic Sea and partly into the southwestern Pannonian Plain. Croatia borders Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

The southernmost part around Dubrovnik is separated from the rest of the country by a narrow coastal corridor belonging to Bosnia and Herzegovina, creating a unique geographical situation.
