Durbar-Platz – Historisches Herz von Kathmandu

Der Durbar-Platz (Nepali: वसन्तपुर दरवार क्षेत्र – Vasantapur Darbar Kshetra) ist der Platz vor dem ehemaligen königlichen Palast des Königreichs Kathmandu.

Er war einer von drei königlichen Plätzen im Kathmandutal, die heute zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehören.

Der Durbar-Platz war einst umgeben von mehr als 50 Pagoden, Tempeln und Palästen, die überwiegend aus Holz errichtet wurden und die hohe Kunstfertigkeit der Newar widerspiegelten.

Beim schweren Erdbeben vom 25. April 2015 wurden zahlreiche dieser historischen Bauwerke stark beschädigt oder zerstört. Viele Gebäude wurden inzwischen restauriert, doch die Auswirkungen sind bis heute sichtbar.

Durbar Square – Historic Heart of Kathmandu

Durbar Square (Nepali: वसन्तपुर दरवार क्षेत्र – Vasantapur Darbar Kshetra) is the square in front of the former royal palace of the Kingdom of Kathmandu.

It was one of three royal squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The square was once surrounded by more than 50 pagodas, temples, and palaces, mostly built of wood and showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of the Newar people.

During the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015, many of these historic structures were severely damaged or destroyed. Restoration work has since taken place, but the impact remains visible.
