Pokhara – Stadt am Phewa-See

Pokhara (Nepali: पोखरा – Pokharā) liegt etwa 200 Kilometer westlich von Kathmandu und befindet sich nahezu im geografischen Mittelpunkt Nepals.

Im Süden grenzt die Stadt an den Phewa-See (4,4 km², knapp 800 m ü. NN), den zweitgrößten See Nepals. Im Norden erhebt sich der südliche Ausläufer des Annapurna-Massivs bis auf rund 1.000 Meter Höhe – darüber ragen die schneebedeckten Gipfel des Himalaya auf.

Mit 313.841 Einwohnern (Stand 2011) ist Pokhara die zweitgrößte Stadt des Landes und ein bedeutendes touristisches Zentrum.

Pokhara – City by Phewa Lake

Pokhara (Nepali: पोखरा – Pokharā) is located about 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu, almost exactly in the geographic center of Nepal.

To the south, the city borders Phewa Lake (4.4 km², just under 800 meters above sea level), the second-largest lake in Nepal. To the north rise the southern foothills of the Annapurna Massif, reaching about 1,000 meters in elevation, with the snow-covered Himalayan peaks towering beyond.

With 313,841 inhabitants (2011), Pokhara is Nepal’s second-largest city and a major tourist destination.
