Wellington – Hauptstadt am Wellington Harbour

Wellington (offiziell: Wellington City, Māori: Te Whanganui-a-Tara) ist die Hauptstadt Neuseelands. Gemeinsam mit den angrenzenden Städten Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt und Porirua bildet sie nach Auckland den zweitgrößten Ballungsraum des Landes.

Die Stadt Wellington selbst zählt rund 213.000 Einwohner. Sie liegt malerisch am Ufer des Wellington Harbour, eingerahmt von Hügeln und Meer.

Aufgrund der starken Winde, die häufig durch die engen Täler und über die Küstenlinie ziehen, trägt Wellington den Beinamen „Windy City“.

Neben ihrer politischen Bedeutung ist die Stadt bekannt für eine lebendige Kulturszene, Museen, Cafés und ihre Nähe zu Natur und Küste.

Wellington (officially: Wellington City, Māori: Te Whanganui-a-Tara) is the capital of New Zealand. Together with the neighboring cities of Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Porirua, it forms the country’s second-largest metropolitan area after Auckland.

Wellington City itself has around 213,000 inhabitants. It is picturesquely located on the shores of Wellington Harbour, surrounded by hills and the sea.

Due to the strong winds that frequently funnel through the valleys and across the coastline, Wellington is often referred to as the “Windy City.”
