San Marino – die älteste Republik der Welt

San Marino (amtlich Republik San Marino, italienisch Repubblica di San Marino, Beiname La Serenissima – „die Allerdurchlauchteste“) ist die vermutlich älteste bestehende Republik der Welt.

Der Überlieferung nach reicht ihre Geschichte bis auf das Jahr 301 zurück, als der heilige Marinus die Gemeinschaft gründete.

Der Staat ist vollständig von Italien umgeben und damit eine Enklave. Mit rund 30.000 Einwohnern und einer Fläche von etwa 60 km² gehört San Marino zu den kleinsten Staaten der Welt. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

San Marino – the oldest republic in the world

San Marino (officially the Republic of San Marino, Italian Repubblica di San Marino, nickname La Serenissima – “the Most Serene”) is considered the oldest surviving republic in the world.

According to tradition, its history dates back to the year 301, when the community was founded by Saint Marinus.

The country is completely surrounded by Italy and is therefore an enclave. With around 30,000 inhabitants and an area of about 60 km², San Marino is one of the smallest states in the world. (Source: Wikipedia)
