La Palma – die „grüne Insel“ der Kanaren

La Palma (vollständiger Name La Isla de San Miguel de La Palma) ist die nordwestlichste der Kanarischen Inseln im Atlantischen Ozean und gehört zur spanischen Provinz Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Hauptstadt der Insel ist Santa Cruz de La Palma, die größte Gemeinde Los Llanos de Aridane.

La Palma zählt zu den geologisch jüngsten Inseln des Archipels. Der Vulkanismus ist noch heute an vielen Kratern und Lavaströmen entlang der Vulkanroute auf der Cumbre Vieja sowie im großen Krater der Caldera de Taburiente sichtbar.

Mit rund 40 % Waldbedeckung ist La Palma die waldreichste der Kanarischen Inseln und trägt daher den Beinamen Isla Verde – „grüne Insel“. Da die Insel weitgehend vom Massentourismus verschont geblieben ist, haben viele Orte ihren ursprünglichen Charakter bewahrt. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

La Palma – the “green island” of the Canaries

La Palma (full name La Isla de San Miguel de La Palma) is the northwesternmost of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean and belongs to the Spanish province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The island’s capital is Santa Cruz de La Palma, while the largest municipality is Los Llanos de Aridane.

La Palma is one of the geologically youngest islands of the archipelago. Volcanic activity is still visible today in numerous craters and lava flows along the volcanic ridge of the Cumbre Vieja and within the large crater of the Caldera de Taburiente.

With about 40% forest coverage, La Palma is the most forested of the Canary Islands and is therefore often called Isla Verde – the “green island”. As the island has largely escaped mass tourism, many places have preserved their original character. (Source: Wikipedia)
