Edfu – Tempel des Horus

Der Tempel von Edfu ist eine altägyptische Tempelanlage am westlichen Stadtrand der etwa 60.000 Einwohner zählenden Stadt Edfu in Oberägypten.

Die Stadt liegt am Westufer des Nil, etwa 100 Kilometer nördlich von Assuan und 85 Kilometer südlich von Luxor. Der Tempel gilt als einer der besterhaltenen Tempel Ägyptens.

Die Tempelanlage war dem lokalen Gott Horus in seiner Erscheinungsform Hor-Behdeti – dem „Horus von Edfu“ – geweiht. Sie entstand während der Herrschaft der Ptolemäer über Ägypten.

In griechisch-römischer Zeit wurde der Ort Apollinopolis Magna genannt, da der Gott Horus mit dem griechischen Gott Apollon gleichgesetzt wurde. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

Edfu – Temple of Horus

The Temple of Edfu is an ancient Egyptian temple located on the western edge of the town of Edfu in Upper Egypt, which has around 60,000 inhabitants.

The town lies on the west bank of the Nile, about 100 kilometres north of Aswan and 85 kilometres south of Luxor. The temple is considered one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt.

The temple complex was dedicated to the local god Horus in his form as Hor-Behdeti, the “Horus of Edfu”. It was built during the rule of the Ptolemaic dynasty.

In Greco-Roman times the city was called Apollinopolis Magna, because the god Horus was identified with the Greek god Apollo. (Source: Wikipedia)
