Nepal – Zwischen Tempeln und Himalaya

Nepal (नेपाल – Nepāl) liegt zwischen Indien und Tibet. Bekannt ist das Land vor allem für seine reiche Tempelkultur und das gewaltige Himalaya-Gebirge, in dem auch der Mount Everest liegt.

Das labyrinthartige Altstadtviertel der Hauptstadt Kathmandu beherbergt zahlreiche hinduistische und buddhistische Schreine. Im Kathmandutal befinden sich unter anderem der buddhistische Tempel Swayambhunath, die große Stupa von Bodnath, der hinduistische Pashupatinath-Tempel mit seinen Verbrennungsstätten sowie die mittelalterliche Königsstadt Bhaktapur.

Nepal hat mehr als 30 Millionen Einwohner, die über 100 verschiedenen Volksgruppen angehören. Rund 80 % der Bevölkerung sind Hinduisten, daneben spielen Buddhismus und weitere Religionen eine wichtige Rolle.

Nepal – Between Temples and the Himalayas

Nepal (नेपाल – Nepāl) lies between India and Tibet. The country is widely known for its rich temple culture and the majestic Himalayas, home to Mount Everest.

The maze-like old town of the capital Kathmandu is filled with Hindu and Buddhist shrines. In the Kathmandu Valley you will find the Buddhist temple Swayambhunath, the great stupa of Bodnath, the Hindu Pashupatinath Temple with its cremation sites, and the medieval royal city of Bhaktapur.

Nepal has more than 30 million inhabitants belonging to over 100 different ethnic groups. Around 80% of the population follows Hinduism, alongside Buddhism and other religions.
